Korra sketch

Don't usually do fan art, but during creative blocks it's a lot of fun. Yay Korra!

Environment color study thumbnails

Super small and quick thumbnail studies in an attempt to nail the lighting and scene. Played around with a few different approaches and brushes to see what felt the best.

Desperate Measures

Tired of missing the sweetspot on his forward air, C-falc straps multiple tasers to his knee.

A sketch before heading to work.

Spelunker and Witch

More generic practice. The cave one is a bit older but I forgot to upload it.

Study of Mr--Jack's Work

Trying to integrate some of @Mr--Jack 's processes into my own so I've started some studies of his work! He's too good!

Sketchdump

Here's a bunch of my sketches from the last week. I've been studying a lot of You Yoshinari's work and trying to integrate it into what I draw. A few of these (5th & 6th from the left) are direct studies, and a few I took poses and tried to overlay my own clothing on top (1st & 4th from left).

The man is a master of gesture, rhythm, and cool shapes so I've been working on those as of late.

Dafoe

Need to practice more heads and it seems the easiest non-super-artsy-actually-decent-portraits are of celebs. If anyone knows where I can find basic lighting portrait photos let me know!

about 3.5 hours on this one.

Cleaned up sketch

Did a cleanup version of one of the girl sketches in the last post. Might try a rendered version too just to see how they'd differ.

More girly practice

Too much Studio Trigger. Must draw girls. Damn you Yoh Yoshinari and your god-tier sketches.

Also holy shit I need to get my scanner out properly. Apologies for phone pics.

Some dude

Little head sketch that turned into silly nonsense. No real explanation here.

Zoo Sketches

Earlier this year I sold my laptop and used that moolah to help fund a cintiq companion. I had mainly just been using it for digital coffee shop sketching, but recently I took it out to the zoo and it was a blast to use. I quickly learned I need to draw more animals to prevent them from looking so amorphous and without structure, but it was loads of fun!

Forest studies

Creative block = time for studies.

Influence Map

I've seen a bunch of people do these over the years but I never really got around to it. Lately I've been kind of confused when working concerning what I'm working towards and putting this together seems to give me some ideas on what I enjoy in art and what I'd like to emulate and develop personally.

Looking at this image as a whole, I can come up with 3 definitive influences I'd like to focus on more:
-Clean, bold, and painterly strokes/shapes
-Vibrant, harmonious, and deliberate color choices
-Believable and dramatic lighting

Wheee more practice!

Star Dork

Started just as a sketch and developed into some rim light practice. I learned I really need to practice different lighting conditions more than anything else. This was fun though!

Some Silly stuff

Started as a basic uninspired sketch of a tomboyish baseball girl, but after coming back to render most of it I started playing around with making it more supernatural this came as a result.

Dinosaurs have become my default boredom doodle material. I'm totally ok with this.
