GeoGuessr Studies 1

Taking a page out of Mr--Jack's book and doing a study wherever GeoGuessr lands. Really trying to focus on color and value, but also trying to have everything read while still painting in a simple manner (if that makes sense). Though, I really want to work on how I'm trying to paint most things. A lot of the objects feel abstractly painted rather than simply painted. I need to start timing myself as well, but these were each 1-3 hours I'm sure.
Still, these are loads of fun.

Pond Study 1

Testing out some new brushes for a change. Normally I just use a square brush but played around with a flat angled brush, some leaf brushes I made, and some water brushes I've been trying to work out.

On a different note, I really like going color first, I'm saving time of having to color it later and it's just so much more fun.

Rock study 1

Doing some rock studies this week to build up that visual library. Worked with direct color this time around and while it's more difficult than starting black and white, it's a lot of fun and forces me to consider value and color at the same time which I don't have a whole lot of experience doing yet. My colors fell on the cool side at first so I'll have to work on getting my temps right when studying.

Running

I have a tough time posting things that aren't studies, simply because I know they aren't where I want them to be and I'm not sure how to get them where I want. Eventually had to just call it on this one since I've just been noodling on it and I want to start more things. I suppose a good thing about imagined drawings/paintings is that it forces me to know what I need to study/where my shortcomings are. Welp, back to more studies.

Head Studies 1

I'm saying this more for myself than anyone else, but I upload things here and online pretty much solely to see progress over time. As any of my friends would tell you, progress in your own skills is hardest to notice. I've watched so many friends just explode into awesome art and it's even more apparent when I go back in time to see what they used to post. It took me WAY too long to finally hit the ground running with drawing and painting and I have a lot of time wasted that I need to reprimand. So yes, artists, please rip me a new one when I post these, and hopefully every so often I can look at this blog and think, "progress".

Desperately need to work on heads

Japan studies

Studying abroad in Japan has allowed me to take loads of reference photos and given me plenty to study. (Those train commutes are perfect for sketching people!) Here are a bunch of studies, some short and some longer, that I've been doing since coming here. (Newest to oldest).

Studies

Been almost a year since I've updated this, but I've been fairly active lately so most of the uploads coming will be from the last year or so. Lots of studies and master copies.
